Abstract

This study reveals, by means of an analysis of the copious works of Arturo
Onofri, some points of intersection with the tradition of the Stil Novo and the
writings of the Renaissance thinker Marsilio Ficino. The adoption of openly
Stil Novo modes of describing the beloved woman allows the poet to reach
the cosmic harmony he has been searching for his entire life. This study
focuses on the lyrical poetry of the poet which in Orchestrine (1917) and
Arioso (1921) anticipates Ciclo della terrestrità del sole (1927-35). Another
fundamental source for the study is the theoretical treatise Nuovo
Rinascimento come arte dell’Io (1925) which, on the one hand, reveals much
about the stylistic choices of Onofri in terms also of the theosophical theories
of Rudolf Steiner and, on the other hand, reveals the importance placed by
the poet on Ficino’s Theologia platonica.
