Abstract

The Petrarch-function is one of the most powerful lines upon which the
organization of Italian literature and culture is based. Literature of the 20th
century, in particular, sees a revival of Petrarch very different from the one
seen in the 16th century. Petrarch is without doubt much more manifest and
relevant in the 20th century in terms of the choice of intellectuals and poets of
historical petrarchism to revive, if only to then negate, the Italian poetic
tradition under the sign of Rerum vulgarium fragmenta. This paper attempts
to reconstruct the overall trajectory, chronologically and spiritually, of the
influence of Petrarch on Andrea Zanzotto, as it emerges in his essay and
above all in his poetry (evident already in Conglomerati) retracing echoes,
vestiges, signs and senhals of the Canzoniere.
